Vitamin B-12 (Cobalamin): This product contains only the active forms of Vitamin B-12 as they exits and are used by the human body. Vitamin B-12 is also known as "Cobalamin". Only the "methylated" form, i.e. "Methyl"-Cobalamin, and "Adenosyl"-Cobalamin are "active" and the exact same forms of Vitamin B-12 that the body uses in all of our cells.
Deficiency: Vitamin B-12 is the most structurally complex of any of the vitamins and has a complicated absorption mechanism in the body involving proper stomach acidity, a molecule named "Intrinsic Factor" and proper digestion by pancreatic enzymes. All this makes it relatively easy for something to go wrong and for an individual to become deficient in B-12. Diets low in animal products (vegan) are also low in vitamin B-12 and can further contribute to B-12 deficiency.
Here are some critical roles of B-12 in the body:
Folate (Vitamin B9): In the same lozenge, we also added the active form of Folate (Vitamin B9) in the form of (6S)-5-methyl-tetra-hydrofolic acid (brand name Quatrefolic) - more commonly known as 5-MTHF.
Even though many foods are now fortified with Folic Acid, this form of Vitamin B-9 is not naturally present in the human body and needs to be converted to Folate, which is the active, and only form, of this vitamin the body can use.
Many individuals have a hard time converting Folic Acid to Folate. In fact, Folic Acid can actually be detrimental to having adequate levels of Folate. Knowing this, it is important to provide one's body with the usable form of Folate and avoid overusing Folic Acid.
The most usable form of Folate is the methylated form, (6-S)-5-Methyl-Folate or %-MTHF, and this is the form present in this supplement.
Here are some of the critical roles of Folate in the body:
Both B12 and Folate are critically important B Vitamins involved in processes involving energy production in the Citric Acid Cycle and Methylation pathways in all cells. These two essential vitamins assist in DNA formation, hormone (estrogen) synthesis and breakdown as well as neurotransmitter synthesis and breakdown (norepinephrine, epinephrine, dopamine and serotonin) in the brain. Neurotransmitters are critical in determining: mood, energy, focus, cravings and movement - essentially the entire gamut of human expression and functionality. Proper availability of both B-12 and Folate is important in combating anxiety, depression, irritability, insomnia and recurrent headaches.
